Social Animal started with a simple idea: what if every website we build also helped animals? We are a web development agency with 12+ years of experience and 5,000+ sites under our belt, from migrations and custom builds to SEO and Core Web Vitals optimisation. We work with businesses worldwide.

But we are not just another agency. A portion of every project goes directly to animal welfare organisations. Rescue shelters, wildlife conservation, sanctuary programmes, the causes closest to our hearts. We believe businesses should be a force for good, and we put our money where our mouth is.

We don't do retainers for the sake of retainers. If a project is three weeks of work, we say three weeks and deliver it in three weeks. If a site doesn't need a full rebuild, we'll say that too.

Every project has specific, measurable targets before work begins: Lighthouse scores, Core Web Vitals ratings, keyword positions. Clients should be able to look at the site six months later and point to exactly what changed and why it matters.

How is Social Animal different from a typical web agency?
Most agencies are generalists. We are not. We do two things: build fast websites with modern frameworks (Next.js, Astro), and optimise them to rank via technical SEO. That focus means we are genuinely skilled at both rather than mediocre at twelve things. Fixed-fee pricing, no scope creep, and 30 days of post-launch support on every project.
What size clients do you work with?
Everything from funded startups and growing SaaS companies to established e-commerce brands and professional services firms. The common thread is that they care about performance and SEO, not just having a site that looks nice. We are not the right fit if you want a 5-page brochure site for under £500. We are the right fit if you want a site that actually grows your business.
Do you work with clients outside the UK?
Yes, the majority of our clients are outside the UK. We work with businesses across the US, Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia. All projects are managed remotely with clear async communication and timezone-aligned check-ins. We have built sites for clients in over 20 countries.
What does your build process look like?
Discovery call to scope the project, followed by a fixed-fee proposal within 48 hours. Design and development run in parallel using a shared staging environment you can access at any time. We ship to production at the end of the build window and then stay on for 30 days to handle any issues, performance tuning, and post-launch fixes. No endless revision cycles, no moving goalposts.
What technologies do you build with?
Our primary stack is Next.js and Astro on the frontend, Supabase for the database layer, and Vercel or Cloudflare for deployment. For headless CMS, we work with Sanity, Contentful, Payload, Strapi, and DatoCMS depending on the content model. We choose the stack that fits the project, not the one we are most comfortable billing for.
How do you approach SEO?
SEO is built in from the first line of code, not added on at the end. That means static or ISR rendering for indexability, semantic HTML, Core Web Vitals-first development, structured data, proper canonical and hreflang handling, and technical audits that surface real issues rather than padding reports. We have taken sites from page 5 to position 1 on high-volume commercial keywords through technical work alone.
How do you support animal welfare?
A portion of every project fee goes directly to animal welfare organisations. We also build pro-bono websites for rescue shelters, wildlife conservation projects, and sanctuary programmes. The causes we support include wildlife rehabilitation, domestic rescue, and habitat conservation. This is not a marketing exercise, it is why the agency is called Social Animal.
What happens after the site launches?
Every build includes 30 days of post-launch support at no extra cost. That covers bug fixes, performance monitoring, and small adjustments. After that, we offer ongoing retainer arrangements for SEO, content updates, and technical maintenance. Clients on retainer get priority response times and a dedicated Slack channel.
