Hugo maakt gebruik van Go templates, die een steiler leertraject hebben dan frameworks op basis van JavaScript. Interactiviteit vereist vanilla JavaScript of Alpine.js — er is geen component model. Voor content-gerichte sites met minimale interactiviteit is dit een voordeel en geen beperking. Voor applicatie-achtige interfaces is Next.js of SvelteKit de betere keuze.

Hugo has the best multilingual support of any static site generator. Content directories, URL structures, and menus all have native i18n support. I have built sites in 8 languages with Hugo.
Can editors use Hugo without touching code?
Yes — I pair Hugo with Forestry (now Tina CMS), Decap CMS (Netlify CMS), or CloudCannon. Editors get a visual interface; Hugo builds from the resulting markdown files.
Does Hugo support modern CSS (Tailwind)?
Yes — Hugo Pipes handles asset processing including PostCSS and Tailwind CSS. The output is optimised, purged CSS.
When would you recommend Hugo over Astro?
When build speed at scale is the primary constraint, or when the team has existing Hugo expertise. For most new projects I default to Astro, but Hugo is the clear winner for very large content sites.
