Why Your Rescue Tech Should Work As Hard As You Do

A potential adopter lands on your site at 9 PM. Your pet listings haven't updated since March. The donate button is three scrolls down. They leave in eight seconds and go straight to Petfinder — where your animals appear with zero branding, zero story, and zero connection to your mission. Meanwhile your foster coordinator is calling down a spreadsheet by hand, your volunteer hours live on a paper sheet, and your international donors can't even read the donation page. Social Animal wasn't named by a branding agency. It was named after Jazz, a beagle. Our founder is Jazz's dad. If you run a shelter, rescue, sanctuary, or animal welfare charity anywhere in the world, we build websites that actually help you save more lives — adoptable pet sync, foster portals, real-time impact dashboards, 30-language support — for a fraction of what agencies charge. Because every animal deserves a shot, and your technology should pull its weight.

Où les projets échouent

You've seen the template Same WordPress theme, different shelter — rotating slider of sad dogs, a PayPal donate button buried at the bottom, a pet listing page last updated sometime in March. Potential adopters spend about eight seconds on your site, then go find animals on Petfinder instead. Where you have no brand presence whatsoever.
Adoption applications trickle in by email Someone copies them into a spreadsheet. Then a busy week hits, staff get overwhelmed, and good applicants just... don't hear back. They get frustrated, give up, and buy from a breeder. Meanwhile your animals are still in kennels.
Donation pages don't inspire confidence No description of what the money actually does, no recurring giving option, no way to sponsor a specific animal. Donors give once, feel nothing, and never return. Monthly recurring revenue sits at zero while your operating costs keep climbing.
Foster coordinators spend half their day on the phone — calling down a list by hand every time a new intake arrives, trying to figure out who has space Animals wait in overcrowded shelters. Willing foster homes sit empty because nobody got to them in time.
Volunteer management runs on group texts and a paper sign-up sheet on the front desk Nobody tracks hours. Coverage gaps go unnoticed until it's too late. Then grant season arrives and a funder asks for volunteer hour data you simply don't have.
Your website's in English Your rescue pulls dogs from Romania and finds them homes in the UK and the Netherlands. International adopters can't navigate the site. International donors can't donate. You've cut off a huge chunk of your support base without realizing it.

Adoptable Animal Profiles

Each animal gets a real profile: name, six-plus photo gallery, video, breed, age, weight, temperament, compatibility notes, medical status, and adoption fee. Filterable by species, breed, age, size, gender, and location. A shelter with 500 animals gets 500 individual SEO pages, each one targeting searches like "beagle adoption Manchester" or "senior cat rescue near me."

Petfinder / Adopt-a-Pet / RescueGroups Sync

When your staff updates an animal's record, it pushes everywhere. Automatic syndication to the Petfinder API, Adopt-a-Pet API, and RescueGroups means no double-entry, no stale listings. Your team touches one system. The internet handles the rest.

Online Adoption Applications

Structured application forms capture housing situation, current pets, vet references, lifestyle, breed experience — everything you actually need. Submissions go into Supabase. Staff review, approve, deny, and communicate with applicants from one dashboard. No more email chains. No more spreadsheets.

Donation Platform with Sponsorship

Stripe or Razorpay handles one-time and monthly recurring donations. Giving tiers with real impact descriptions: "$25 feeds one dog for a week." Sponsor-an-animal links a monthly donation directly to a specific animal's profile. Year-end tax receipts generate automatically.

Foster Network Management

Foster application forms capture availability, experience, housing, and animal preferences. When a new intake arrives, the system finds matching fosters by capacity and preference automatically. What used to take three hours of phone calls takes minutes.

AI Chatbot — 24/7 Coverage

A Claude-powered RAG chatbot fields questions about available breeds, the adoption process, and visiting hours — pulling from your shelter's FAQ and live animal data. It captures adopter interest at 2am when your staff has been asleep for hours.

Ce que nous construisons

Template sites lose adopters in eight seconds — same WordPress theme, buried donate button, pet listings that haven't updated in weeks

Volunteer portal with shift calendar, orientation scheduling, hour tracking, and contribution history — so coverage gaps surface before they hurt

Adoption applications trickle in by email and sit in someone's inbox while good applicants give up and buy from breeders

Event calendar with RSVP and Stripe-powered ticket sales — fundraising galas, spay clinics, vaccination drives, all in one system

Donation pages offer no recurring option, no impact story, no way to sponsor a specific animal — so donors give once and never return

Public impact dashboard with live counters — animals rescued, adopted, in care, foster homes active, donations received, volunteers contributing

Foster coordinators spend half their day calling down a spreadsheet by hand every time a new intake arrives

30-language i18n engine for cross-border rescues — adopt in the UK, fundraise in the Netherlands, rescue in Romania, one site handles it all

Volunteer management runs on group texts and paper sign-ups — no hour tracking, no coverage visibility, no grant-season data

Mobile-first builds on Vercel edge — sub-second load times for the 60% of your traffic coming from phones

Your site is English-only while your rescue operates across borders — cutting off international adopters and donors entirely

You own the code, the data, and the domain — no CMS lock-in, no annual license, no vendor dependency, permanently

Questions fréquentes

Why are your rates so much lower for animal rescues?

Social Animal was named after Jazz, our founder's beagle. Animal welfare isn't a marketing angle for us — it's why the company exists. We subsidize 60–75% of our standard rate for registered charities because we think every rescue organization deserves proper technology. We absorb the difference. Not a loss leader. A mission.

Do we need to be a registered charity to qualify?

We do require charitable registration — 501(c)(3) in the US, registered charity in the UK, or the equivalent in your country. That keeps the subsidy going to legitimate organizations. If you're an informal rescue without registration yet, reach out anyway. We look at each situation individually and can often find a way to help.

Will adoptable animal profiles actually rank on Google?

Yes. We use a directory architecture that generates individual SEO-optimized pages for every animal in your system. Five hundred animals means 500 pages, each targeting specific searches like "golden retriever adoption Austin" or "senior cat adoption near me." It pulls in organic traffic from people who are already looking to adopt in your area — they just don't know about you yet.

Can the site sync with Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet automatically?

We integrate with the Petfinder API, Adopt-a-Pet API, and RescueGroups API. When a staff member updates an animal's profile — new photos, status change, marked as adopted — it syncs across all platforms automatically. No double-entry, no stale listings showing animals that found homes three weeks ago.

What does hosting cost after launch?

Hosting passes through at our actual cost: $25–45 per month for Supabase and Vercel combined. No markup, no annual license. Optional maintenance runs $200–500 per month and covers updates, monitoring, and new features. Both are genuinely optional — you own the code and can self-host if that works better for you.

How long does the build take from start to launch?

Most rescue sites launch within six weeks. Week one is discovery and data audit. Weeks two through five are the build — animal profiles, adoption forms, donation platform, foster matching, volunteer tools. Week six is staff training, launch, and the start of 30 days of post-launch support.

Registered Animal Charities: $2,000 – $7,000
60-75% below our standard rate. Fixed fee. 30-day post-launch support. You own the code.
